The John A. Miller Legacy Fund

The Board of Directors of Stratford Summer Music would like to mark in a special way the conclusion of John’s founding and leading Stratford Summer Music to be a Canadian and internationally recognised music festival of value and importance to our city, our province and our country.

With John’s support and encouragement, the Directors have created, and are administering, a separate Fund whose resources are available to Stratford Summer Music in the future whenever any significant, temporary need arises and is worthy of support.

All the proceeds of this Fund are to be interim resources, always to be repaid when the supported activity or transition phase is fulfilled or completed.  In other words, the balance of this Legacy Fund and its future invested growth are not part of our operational budget.

Gifts to the Fund are charitable donations and will receive full receipts for income tax donation purposes when sent to Stratford Summer Music.  Details are at the foot of this page.

This is “The John A. Miller Legacy Fund“ which is being independently invested, in trust, for Stratford Summer Music with the Ontario Arts Foundation, an agency of the Ontario Ministry of Culture.

We believe this Legacy Fund is a clear way to ensure the future of a dynamic, strong and financially viable Stratford Summer Music festival.

We invite gifts of any amount from anyone who, like us, believes that what John Miller has built should go into the future with every prospect of success and strength.  Together, let’s raise this Fund as the clearest way to ensure a Legacy for what John has accomplished since 2001.

The Neil F. Crory Endowment Fund

NEIL F. CRORY March 29, 1950 – January 10, 2019
In February 1977, Neil was a quiet, resolute young man from rural Alberta attending university in Edmonton where one of his professors, the distinguished Canadian composer, Violet Archer, wrote, ‘Neil Crory promises to be a first rate professional musician.’ And that’s exactly what Neil became for this entire country through his stellar career as a Senior Music Producer in CBC Radio Music during those days when the Corporation recorded and broadcast Canada’s classical musicians and singers.
Among Neil’s most treasured accomplishments are a score of CDs that garnered eight JUNO awards, an American Grammy nomination, and an East Coast Music Award. Then there were the 1997 CBC Schubertiade, and the famous New Year’s Eve Gala at Roy Thomson Hall welcoming the 21st century with twelve of Canada’s greatest opera singers. Other highlights include several Glenn Gould celebrations honouring, among others, Yo-Yo Ma, Oscar Peterson, André Previn and Pierre Boulez; gala concerts from Rideau Hall; national broadcasts of Tafelmusik, Toronto Symphony, Canadian Opera Company, and Opera Atelier. His proudest achievement was the inspiring Maureen Forrester Memorial Tribute (2010) at Stratford Summer Music. In addition, Neil made innumerable contributions to the pages of Opera Canada and other publications.
As he wished, an endowment fund has been created for the Stratford Summer Music Vocal Academy to support two of Neil’s passions, the training and the presentation of young Canadian classical singers and the popularization of the Lieder of Richard Strauss. Donations in his honour would be appreciated to the Neil Crory Fund, administered by the Ontario Arts Foundation for the music festival. Contributions accepted at www.oafdn.ca/make-a-donation.
