MUSIC BRINGS A WARMTH TO OUR LIVES
Hello, Stratford Summer Music Fans!
Crystal here again with this week’s e-blast!
Last night, we hosted our first Side-by-Side event of the year, Winter Bach 3.0! It was wonderful to reconnect with audience members, volunteers, and musicians. Time flies during these long winter months, and it's easy to forget the joy that comes from gathering together to experience something special. I left feeling renewed, with a sense of purpose and hope, knowing that bringing arts and music to the community of Stratford is exactly what Stratford Summer Music is here for. The performers last night were truly amazing to witness. I even saw a comment on our social media this morning praising how the distinction between professionals and students was indiscernible—the students were exceptional! The voices of the choir filled the rafters of The Avondale, surrounding us in a heart-filling, warm musical experience.

On a more somber note: Like many of you, I’ve been closely following the news, feeling the weight of uncertainty around the economic challenges we face. Last night, I read an article marking the anniversary of the COVID-19 pandemic's onset, and it brought back that same sense of unease. The performing arts and music were among the first industries affected, with our doors shutting immediately.
I vividly remember those months of uncertainty—unable to step through the doors of Canada's National Arts Centre. When we were finally allowed back in the building, we were greeted by silence. There is nothing quite like the silence of a place meant to be alive with the sounds of music, dance, and theatre—filled with the emotions these art forms evoke.
As we navigate these challenges once again, it’s important to turn to things like the performing arts and music. They provide us with a reprieve from all that is happening, uniting us and reminding us of the good and beautiful things in our lives, our country, and the world around us.
Here are a few reminders of the joy that music brings into our lives. It’s the things that make us feel good—like music and the arts—that we need most right now. You can see these wonderful musicians perform with us in the summer of 2025!
Have a great week and enjoy the music!
