Canadian superstar tenor Ben Heppner is joined by the Toronto Mass Choir, Canada’s premier gospel choir, in an afternoon of traditional and contemporary gospel songs that are sure to raise the roof. Oh Happy Day!
In addition to well-known gospel songs from both the black and white traditions, O HAPPY DAY features contemporary songs written especially for the Toronto Mass Choir as well as time-honoured spirituals and hymns such as Amazing Grace, His Eye is on the Sparrow and, of course, O Happy Day.
Ben Heppner is one of the world’s greatest dramatic tenors, having performed the operas of Wagner, Verdi, Puccini and Strauss in the leading opera houses of the world, including the Metropolitan Opera, La Scala, Covent Garden, Canadian Opera Company and the Wiener Staatsoper. He has appeared in the great international concert halls with most of the leading symphony orchestras and made numerous recordings. Since his retirement from his illustrious career in classical music he has appeared in musical theatre productions and concerts across Canada and is a popular Host on CBC- Radio. We welcome Mr. Heppner back to Stratford Summer Music!
Toronto Mass Choir has been forging a unique path under the direction of Co-Founder and Artistic Director Karen Burke for the past thirty years, fusing elements of traditional and contemporary gospel music with jazz, Latin and Caribbean influences. International tours, a dozen recordings and a strong core of vocalists and instrumentalists are evidence of the strong presence of this award-winning ensemble in the Canadian music scene.
