Jean-Michel Blais

“This bearded young man with a twinkle in his eye works at a baby grand, producing from it classically evocative moods, pleasing pop melodies and emotive progressions.  This casual recital serves as a low-key unveiling of a new artist.  The French have a word for this kind of moment:  Voilà.” - The Globe and Mail

Jean-Michel Blais, a French-Canadian composer and pianist from Montreal, is very much a 21st century performer, rooted in the past but expressing himself and the sensations he feels through his music in the present.   His listeners, especially upon first hearing him at a performance or on a CD or via YouTube, describe what they hear, and feel, as refreshing, magnifique, mesmerizing, uplifting, superbe, beautiful.  “This is music that reminds you to breathe, that makes you feel more than you think you, so beautiful,” wrote one new internet enthusiast.

We predict that Jean-Michel Blais will soon experience a quiet but steady career growth leading to a world-wide respect for his music, his style, his manner.  Stratford Summer Music and our audiences are fortunate to be welcoming Jean-Michel to this season’s piano performances.

Repertoire will all be compositions by M. Blais, including selections from his first album, Il, improvisations, and recently composed works.
